Did the reviewer like the movie overall?

Yes, the reviewers of course really like this movie, because apart from serving comedy, it also adds spice to the drama of the life of a family with Chinese ancestry. Although this film tells about the life of a family of Chinese descent, the conflict presented is universal and is also felt by many people, so everyone can understand the conflict in this film.

Did the reviewer recommend that readers see the movie:

Yes, reviewers recommend watching this movie, because there are many meanings contained in this film.

What positive things did the reviewer say about the movie:

  1. Diversity Tolerance

Koh Afuk (Chew Kin Wah), a shop owner in this film is described as a person who is very close to all of his employees who have different characters, races, and even religions. Koh Afuk values all of his employees and even considers the brand as his own family.

  1. Always help the weak!

Koh Afuk is very responsive to all his employees, he also teaches his son, Erwin (Ernest Prakasa), to do the same. Koh Afuk also warns Robert (Tora Sudiro) to stop treating his employee, Anita (Yeyen Lidya), arbitrarily. Koh Afuk shows us how a real human being should help the weaker and oppressed.

What negative things did the reviewer say about the movie:

  1. Erwin is subtly forced to continue his father’s shop, while he who is already established with his own goals and career is finally forced to give up to continue his father’s business. The logic is easy, it’s as if a child has been thrown as far south as possible (high school or far away) but in the end is pulled back north again.
  2. Siblings are jealous of each other

Yohan is jealous of Erwin because his father loves his younger brother more than he. It causes a rift in the family.

Describe the setting (time and place)

“Cek Toko Sebelah” This is a place setting that is used in one of the regional complexes in Jakarta, precisely in grocery stores, as well as several work offices as well. Because the title of this film is “Cek Toko Sebelah”, the center of the place in this film is more centered on the basic food shops.

Briefly Summarize the plot:

Starting from a family that has two sons, namely Yohan (Dion Wiyoko) and Erwin (Ernest Prakasa), they have a father named Koh Afuk (Chew Kin Wah). Koh Afuk is a successful grocery store owner, Erwin his second child is a young man who has a brilliant career, he also has a beautiful and equally successful girlfriend, Natalie (Gisella Anastasia). Meanwhile, Yohan, the first child, who already has a wife Ayu (Andini Wirasti) is not as good as Erwin, he often stumbles into problems so that his relationship with his father is a little out of harmony. The problem started when Koh Afuk was sick and planned to leave his shop to Erwin, while at that time Erwin got a promotion opportunity to work in Singapore which could add to his career success, besides that his girlfriend also did not agree if Erwin chose to continue as a shop owner. Yohan was angry with his father's decision, because according to him he was the one who was more entitled to the inheritance. Actually Erwin also agrees that the shop is continued by Yohan because Erwin prefers his current career, but because of his father's deteriorating condition, Erwin temporarily wants to comply with his father's request, but it only lasts one month, after that Erwin feels unable to continue the shop. the. Until Koh Afuk felt very disappointed and sold the shop and the land. Yohan was not willing if the shop had to be sold because there were memories from when their mother was still alive. Then Yohan and Erwin tried to get the shop back. Because actually the shop was also very valuable to him, until he fell ill because of his own decision to sell the shop. Finally Yohan and Erwin got the shop again and Koh Afuk agreed to give the shop to Yohan as the developer of his wife's cake business and let Erwin pursue his career, according to his wishes.

When their family had a big fight.

From this film, we believe that parents are not always wise in managing their children, there may be times when the eldest child must inform or give directions politely regarding future decisions, and the child's future is in the hands of his own child.

And what we don't believe is, the selfishness of a father.
